First things first; Consoles need to be built to last long and be pushed to their limits by new games by their end of their lifetime. I shouldn’t see a new Xbox, PS, or Nintendo System until 10-15 years have passed.

Honestly I'd be kinda hyped for a handheld xbox to complement my gaming pc. Would never consider an xbox otherwise.

I didn't even bother with the latest generation because my old gaming PC still runs everything I care about, and gives me more freedoms. If I bought a new console it'd be xbox purely because of the thumbsticks - that's it. But I've no reason to, because it just seems like a moneypit to own a console. A walled garden of high prices, fewer choices and forced obsolescence.

Game engines have become extremely scalable within the last ten years so Microsoft making a rule that a game be able to run on the Series S is not that farfetched. Throwing in another device for devs to work on that will have architectural parity is not a big deal. This isn't the GBA, DS, PSP, GameCube, PS2, Xbox, PS3, 360, Wii days where you had to outsource studios if you wanted to release a game on every platform.

I think they should because not everyone is going to have thousands of dollars to spend on a high powered PC From a financial perspective this would be suicide, you would be cutting millions of Xbox owners out of your potential customer base.

Anyone remember what SEGA did in the 90s? Microsoft is not stupid when it comes to business or anything related to gaming. They are going to be a major player on the software side just like they have always been. They know that Steam and Nintendo will win the handheld/Cloud gaming war. Its Sony that will be behind in industry when they cant find any developers willing to do exclusive games just for them.

I couldn't possibly disagree more with your conclusion, despite most of the video being sound. TV Shows becoming ad-supported is going to absolutely destroy creativity and the overall quality of shows coming out. Many are too young to remember, or have simply forgotten how stifling the slavery to advertiser sensibilities and concerns was. Content was censored or edited all the time because the networks were terrified of advertising pulling the plug. Not just the controversial stuff, but for a time you had TV networks that refused to depict abortion, or specific kinds of violence or scenarios, no matter how relevant or critical the depictions were. Even something like The Last of Us, one of the greatest shows ever made, would have been edited because some producer somewhere would've been concerned about some retail investment group pulling sponsorship because the show depicts shopping malls (i.e. their business model) in a cynical light. It's not a coincidence that the "golden age of television" happened when advertisers stopped pulling the strings and creatives were given the freedom to be creative. It would be a grave mistake to return to the abuser, here.

Xbox forgot what exclusives are. Back in the 7th generation, the Xbox 360 was killing it thanks to having a developer friendly architecture and exclusives like Gears, Halo, Crackdown, Rare games, and more. MS needs to return to that time or else.

At some point improving graphics becomes useless. We're not in the hughe jump between generations like to one between ps1 and ps2 for exemple, in wich the graphics were REALLY upgraded. Nowadays it's a mater of particles and light (slight) upgrades.

Giving the Series S a bad time because it's not as performant as the X is a tired, silly and easily debunked argument. The most successful console of recent memory the Nintendo Switch is a magnitude slower than the Series S, yet devs don't have a problem developing for it. Games matter more to the majority than performance, and buying habits prove it.

what if the handheld is also a cloud console with one of those new snapdragons? I don't think it will see much support because it is arm based but with time ppl migth start developing for it, and in the mean time you can either emulate or better yet utilize microsofts huge cloud infrastructure for an xbox gamepass. Biggest gaming franchises (candy crush, call of duty , minecraft) + the second biggest cloud provider + Windows is surely not a disaster waiting to rear its head, right? And if those new arm laptops pop off (I hope they don't) then sony and nintendo don't stand a chance. We are lucky that windows phones (biggest gaming market + candy crush) sucks.

I think this and the subsequent pandemic is what set off the extremely heavy amounts of cynicism, confusion, and hazy liminality in the 2020s. Before the 2010s, there was something that solidly defined each decade with people taking note of it and giving change for the next decade to either follow or oppose. The 2010s was basically a sneak peak into every subculture that would evolve and permeate the 2020s in their much more developed forms, providing people a tidbit look as to what happens when people aren't anchored properly. In the 2010s, no one was anchored to any political or social ideology. This social confusion of the 2010s was exacerbated by the pandemic, and the loneliness that came from it.

Nintendo is a fraction of the size Microsoft is and they keep coming back after failures. Multi-trillion dollar company Microsoft gets punched in the mouth once and throws in the towel. This is what is called a front runner. This is a mismanagement problem, not a console or gaming problem.

One of the most common talking point is how Xbox will have to win as Microsoft is something like 30 times bigger then Sony. What they miss is while Microsoft may be bigger then Sony their profit are only 5 ish times bigger and the gaming divisions (thanks to those lawsuits) stand on their own. But these complains are led by people making decisions based on stocks(as that is their profit incentive). The longer a game takes to make and the bigger the initial budget the bigger the difference between the games profit and just dumping it in the stock market. Games are investments that need to be more profitable then stock market to incentivize investors and stock growth( what those making decision actually get their money). PlayStation, Nintendo, and Xbox will be fine…. Unless in their desperation to boost stack vale to get a pay day you end up doing permanent damage to your brand to the point it collapsed completely. Xbox tried to do this with the Xbox One, Nintendo almost did it with the Wiiu, PlayStation seems to have avoided it for the time being…. But their live service push them cold feet have yet to play out fully.

I honestly feel like MCU already scratched the surface and peaked with Endgame in terms of overall quality and entertainment. They could have either rebooted after that movie or had a 5 yr hiatus to properly plan the multiverse saga so that they don’t receive superhero fatigue, they don’t rush production, and they don’t murder their vfx workers. They can take time, write their scripts properly without having to use AI or smth. But nowadays, I feel like the scripts for most of the new ones are so bad as if they were written by AI. Russos were right. They warned us about AI.

It's because they started competing with PCs. It's a stupid idea and why Switch knocked it out of the park. A game system needs to be more like a toy to carve its own niche away from PCs or else PCs will eventually win.

What really needs to be done for consoles is to switch from "console as platform" to "console as form-factor". Having consoles as platforms is a huge obstacle to customers. That needs to go. The only difference that should exist between a console a Linux PC is the UI and input devices. Doing a console properly should just be a matter of grabbing some budget PC hardware, shoving it into a case that looks good under a TV, installing a Linux distro with a gamepad-optimised UI, and plugging in a gamepad. The only thing we're really missing right now is the OS. We've seen it in action with SteamOS on the Steam Deck. All we need now is a standalone version to install on whatever you have lying around.

I expected the video to end with a joke about how it is going to fail anyway because they will still refuse to make any games for the system because why would I buy a portable Xbox when I can already buy a Steamdeck which I know for sure works and most of its catalogue is compatible with it, like, we know Microsoft is by no means going to make a better machine than Steamdeck, or with as many exclusives as the Switch. They will fail, there's no future for Xbox, that thing is being made only to impress investors which know shit about games, only that "Switch and Steamdeck are successful, therefore a portable Xbox means even more success" ignoring the reasons why they have success in the first place.
